About the project
Climate change is already affecting many weather and climate extremes across the globe and vulnerable communities are disproportionally affected by the climate crisis.
To combat climate change and build resilience to the impacts of climate change, we need a just, green and feminist southern led transition into a more sustainable world. This means investing more resources into the solutions that communities on the frontlines of climate change in the global south are developing.
Community led solutions are more effective as they take local contexts into account. They also have higher social - economic and environmental returns; produce results that are more equitable and also benefit marginalized groups.
ActionAid has documented examples of such community led alternatives in 9 countries across Africa and Asia. These projects are often led by youth or women, and represent part of what a southern led just transition could look like. These solutions can be scaled up and/or replicated in other places with the rights investments and support from public and private actors.
We have put these case studies in an easy-to-search database, which showcases what community led solutions to climate change look like around the world. We hope that this database will be useful to various stakeholders and actors in the agriculture and energy sectors including researchers, academics, funders, development practitioners among others.
